Stay in the Wow Until You’ve Got Something Good To Say

One doesn’t need to be a genius, or a psychic or have come from the future to know that the warm ups for the Black Humor Olympics are officially over: If your neighborhood isn’t on fire or under water, you’re on fire or under water.

And yet, I’m sticking to my story that this is a beautiful, magical, stunningly surprising, terribly bananas time to be “alive and awake to being alive and awake” as my guest, Dianne m. Connelly would say.

In this, my 12th podcast, I return to the seemingly infinite well of wisdom that is the author of Medicine Words: Language of Love for the Treatment Room of Life, for the third time.  In her world, it’s all about designing a daily mood of holy awe no matter what and without knowing what will be asked of her.

With our national conversation waist deep in water, wind, fools, and bullets, in Dr. Dianne m. Connelly’s world, everything and everyone is an occasion to wake up. “None of us is getting out of here alive,” as she is fond of saying, so, without knowing what will be asked of us, without knowing what comes first – “our death or tomorrow,” how do we wake up every day, and transform those “kick the dog moments” into: “AND, WHAT ELSE?” There is just nobody better than the author of Medicine Words: Language of Love for the Treatment Room of Life to remind us that life is not a pathology or a parking lot, and every day is a chance to design a way of being big enough to cradle everything we have to bear and still language a world that chooses to presence joy, gratitude, love, and laughter over misery, worry, fault-finding, and complaint.

She coaches me through my #firstworldproblems (clueless yoga neighbor) and reminds us why it’s so not ok to say just any old thing.

She who speaks doesn’t know and she who knows doesn’t speak…that’s the tricky part of trying to describe the unspeakable divine.

In a way, there’s nothing to say but: WOW,” according to Dianne.

The practice is…When we wake up, one more day, I can say anything about that, so what do I design, what do I say that will serve the next generation?

The Heisenberg principle says that we as observers EFFECT that which we are observing. Dianne says, In speaking, we are making meaning out of what we’re witnessing in these times.

We can wake up and “Kick the dog,” and be all but but but….fight fight fight or we CAN CHOOSE to be a protagonist…Yes and yes and, agree and build agree and build.
